Lamar football, which returns 14 total starters, was picked seventh in the 2012 Southland Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll results announced July 24 during the SLC Football Media Day at L’Auberge du Lac in Lake Charles.
The Cardinals are coming off a sixth-place finish after a 4-7 overall record and 2-5 Southland mark. Lamar was the only school not represented on the Southland Conference’s preseason all-conference team.
This time two years ago, fans were super excited that football, absent since 1989, was returning at Lamar University. It had been too long since fans, alum and students could sit in the stadium and watch college football.
Money flowed in to make it happen, beautifully refurbishing the stadium, which went on to be named Provost Umphrey Stadium. Everyone embraced the return of Lamar football.
Cody Williams is ready for the biggest fight of his career. That fight will take place on Saturday, July 7, when the 27-year-old Beaumont native climbs into the cage to fight Todd Martarona for the IXFA bantamweight title in the Event Center at Delta Downs in nearby Vinton, La.
