As the Lamar Cardinals enter their final week of spring practice, the spotlight on the Lamar campus has been turned to the annual spring game – the Crawfish Bowl – which is slated for Saturday, March 7, at 7 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium.
Head coach Ray Woodard announced the coaching staff for the game; Brett Ramsey will coach the Red, and Ben Beasley the White.
The Lamar Cardinals were unable to overcome a hot-shooting Stephen F. Austin team, losing a game by 103-74 to the Lumberjacks on Feb. 23 at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The loss ended Lamar’s recent three-game win streak, and dropped Lamar to 14-13 on the season and 8-7 in Southland Conference play.
It was tight, but a cast of characters led the Lamar baseball team to a 7-6 win over New Mexico State in the 2015 season opener on Friday, Feb. 6, at Vincent-Beck Stadium, and more importantly, led Cardinal skipper Jim Gilligan to his 1,300th career win.
While we harbor no disrespect for the Wall Street Journal who called us “that scrappy little paper from Southeast Texas,” we prefer to think of ourselves as simple seekers of the truth. We’re of the opinion that headlines and sound bites never tell the whole story. Our readers demand all the facts, facets and flavors of every story or event. And, they expect to be informed, educated and stirred to action.
