AUSTIN — The Evadale Rebels were stunned when Eula’s Jacob Archa drained an off-balance 3-pointer as time expired giving the Pirates a 54-51 come-from-behind win in the Class A-Division I state semifinals at the Frank Erwin Center on Thursday morning.

With the game tied at 51, Eula possessed the ball with 2.7 seconds at the baseline opposite of their own basket. Guard George Reyes received the throw-in near half-court and passed to Archa who not only stunned the Rebels and their fans, but the 4,631 in attendance.

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Lamar University needed a win at McNeese State on Saturday to earn a berth into the 2011 State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament, but the Cardinals came up short in a 92-74 loss to the Cowboys at Burton Coliseum.

The Cardinals finish the 2010-11 season with a 13-17 overall record and 7-9 SLC mark. McNeese State earned at least a share of the conference title, and locked up the No. 1 seed into the tournament, with a 19-10 overall record and an 11-5 SLC record.

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Lamar University women's basketball team saw its dreams of the No. 1 seed in the upcoming State Farm Southland Conference Tournament come to an end with a 70-69 loss to host McNeese State on Saturday afternoon.

McNeese State (23-6 overall, 15-1 SLC) scored the final seven points of the game to get the win and the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Lamar (24-6, 13-3), which saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end, will be the No. 2 seed in the tourney, which gets under way Tuesday in Katy, Texas.
