The Washington Redskins selected West Brook alum Ryan Grant in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on May 10. Grant played four years at Tulane at wide receiver and caught 196 passes for 2,769 yards and 21 scores, and was the first Green Wave player to be drafted since 2009.
Grant played varsity for three seasons at Beaumont West Brook and was named first team all district as a senior.
Monsignor Kelly High School senior James Meshell and the Kelly soccer team celebrate Meshell's signing to play soccer for Roanoke College in Virginia. The Roanoke College Athletics program has accumulated 101 ODAC Championships since joining the Div. III ranks in 1980 with four national championships and currently supports 19 intercollegiate sports.
Plenty of teams from Southeast Texas are still playing in the second round of the playoffs as Bridge City (3A) with a record of 24-3-1 will play Sweeny (18-9) in a best-of-3 series beginning Friday, May, 9 at Baytown Sterling High School at 7:30 p.m. Games 2-3 will be played at the same field on Saturday at 1 p.m.
