On Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at approximately 12:18 a.m., Beaumont police officers responded to a call regarding a robbery. BPD told The Examiner a black male entered the business and brandished a handgun. Following the robbery, the suspect fled on foot. Officers are investigating the robbery.

Hardin County’s only indoor training facility Athletic Edge Sports in Lumberton will host a baseball workshop with former MLB player Aaron Newcomb on Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. Newcomb was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2012. He spent several years pitching in the professional ranks for the Burlington Bees, Washington Wild Things and Gateway Grizzlies.

Just three short years in business, Britt Baker has become one of the most popular athletes on the Independent professional wrestling circuit. Standing 5-foot-7, the Pennsylvania native is sometimes fire, sometimes nice. From the U.S. to Japan, Baker has competed inside the square circle against some of the best in the business, recently seen on the WWE Network in NXT against Shayna Baszler.

But this Baker is different. She’s a doctor.

The Lamar University women’s golf team announced the 2018 Alumni Day, hosted by the current Cardinals at the Beaumont Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 20. Alumna will be able to pair up with a current Lamar student-athlete or coach for a fun day of golf and camaraderie.

Marco Born was named Lamar University Director of Athletics by President Dr. Kenneth Evans on March 29 and wasted no time before being seen out in the community. For those who have never seen Born in person, he stands nearly 6-foot-10 and loves to talk and promote Lamar University.

A veteran of coaching in the Southland Conference, David Dumars joins the Lamar University men’s basketball coaching staff. Dumars replaces Justin Bailey who left last month to become the head coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith.

Dumars comes to Beaumont after spending the previous 18 years at McNeese, the final 14 seasons as associate head coach. The hiring marks the second time Price and Dumars have served on the same staff.

 Lamar University scored goals in the 20th and 83rd minute of the game, but only needed the first goal to defeat University of Houston, 2-0, on Aug. 19 at the LU Soccer Complex. The victory was Lamar’s second-straight shutout to start 2018, which is the second consecutive season they have began 2-0.

“This was a huge win for us,” said head coach Steve Holman. “Houston is a good team, and they’re really good in the second half. I thought our defense was solid tonight — we bent but didn’t break. It was great to get a shutout.”

Lamar’s football team held a scrimmage Aug. 11 at Provost Umphrey Stadium. The scrimmage was broken down into three parts — offense vs. defense, special teams and red zone work.

The offense had the upper hand in the scrimmage, breaking several big plays, while the defense flipped the script during special teams work.

The 2018 soccer season will open this weekend for last year’s Southland Conference champion Lamar Cardinals. LU will host Grambling on Friday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. and the University of Houston on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. The Cards won an exhibition game Aug. 8 against Rice, 3-2.
