The Jefferson County Go Texan Committee, a subcommittee of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, will announced its annual scholarship recipients Tuesday night at Courville’s in Beaumont. Rebekah Maxwell, Reaud Honors College Coordinator at Lamar University, was the featured speaker.

Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick

Ducks Unlimited announced the winners of the 2017 Wetland Conservation Achievement Awards during the 82nd North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference held in Spokane, Wash., and this year’s recipient in the local/private citizen category is Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick.


In celebration of Women’s History Month, Pioneering Women unveiled the honorees for the non-profit’s annual luncheon during a ceremony at the Beaumont City Hall on Tuesday, March 21. Those women pegged for the distinction in 2017 include Camille Briggs, Japera Levine, Allison Getz, Faye Woodsmall, Jane Hebert, Ingrid Holmes and Dee Richard.

Past honorees have included Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames, Councilwoman Gethrel “Get” Williams-Wright, and many, many others over the more than 15 years Pioneering Women has been honoring local ladies.

Chevrolet’s Midsize Truck: ‘17 Colorado

The Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup was named the Motor Trend Truck of the Year in 2015 and 2016. For 2017, Colorado continues with its combination of refinement and efficiency, along with some new features for 2017, such as, an all-new V-6 engine with a class-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission.

With a starting MSRP of $20,000, Colorado is available in four-door extended- or crew-cab models, with a choice of a four-cylinder engine, V6 engine or turbo-diesel engine.

“The value of legislative groups traveling to Austin is inestimable,” according to former State Sen. Carl Parker, and this past week, the Golden Triangle’s voice was heard when the chambers of Orange, Beaumont and Port Arthur collaborated to host Golden Triangle Days in the state’s capital from Sunday, March 5 – Tuesday, March 7. 

Parker is one of the original founders of Port Arthur Day, a Port Arthur exclusive event similar to Golden Triangle Days held before the Chambers decided to collaborate.

Antibiotics used by beekeepers will no longer be available over the counter.

Honey bees may not provide unconditional love, nor will they assist in any rescue efforts. These animals, however, share the same need for health care as do our beloved, four-legged pets. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration is demanding it.
