At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 22, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on SH 105, near Old Sour Lake Road, in Hardin County.

26-year-old Anna Guadalupe Hernandez of Raywood has been identified as the driver of the Ford pickup truck involved in the fatal crash Oct. 22 on Smith Road in Jefferson County. Preliminary reports indicated that the 2001 Ford pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Kidd Road, and for an unknown reason, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a culvert.  After striking the culvert, the vehicle rolled over several times before coming to rest in the ditch.  The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

A Port Arthur police car ran into a building in the 700 block of Gulfway Drive, in the early morning hours of Oct. 19.  According to Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the patrol unit was traveling eastbound on Gulfway in Port Arthur and traveled off the roadway for reasons unknown, hitting a utility pole before crashing into a building. 

The Port Arthur Police Department officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Factors in the crash are under investigation.

A medical emergency may have been behind a costly accident that occurred just after lunchtime Oct. 17 at the Mike Smith BMW dealership off of I-10.

An 18-wheeler left the roadway, crossing the service road before crashing into another vehicle and then into the lot of the dealership, hitting several cars there. It is believed the driver had a medical emergency, causing the collisions. The driver was transported to the hospital but there were no reports of serious injuries.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, preliminary reports in the Oct. 16 accident indicate that a 2003 Buick passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on SH 73. Due to the wet road conditions, the vehicle hydroplaned and the driver lost control. The vehicle struck the inside guardrail, which disabled the vehicle in the roadway. A Chrysler 200 and a Toyota SUV were traveling westbound on SH 73 and stopped in the roadway to avoid colliding with the wrecked vehicle.

According to information from Chief Rod Carroll with the Vidor PD, on Oct. 11 at approximately 7:45 AM, the Vidor Police Department received a call of a major accident on the I-10 Service road near FM 1132. A passenger van was traveling eastbound on the I-10 service road near S. Lakeside. A City of Vidor sanitation truck was stopped in the outside lane picking up trash cans. The sun was obstructing the view of the eastbound drivers. The driver of the van saw the trash truck at the last moment and attempted to change lanes striking the sanitation truck in the rear.

News Release from Chief Rod Carroll, Vidor PD -

On Tuesday, October 2, at approximately 2:58 p.m., the Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center received a call of a major accident on Hwy. 12 at FM 1132 (Evangeline Dr.). Responding units found two vehicles involved. One driver was pronounced deceased on the scene by Justice of the Peace Rodney Price. The second driver was transported in stable condition by Acadian Ambulance Service to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. At the current time, the accident is under further investigation.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are investigating an accident involving two motorcycles Sept. 24, reports Sgt. Stephanie Davis.

According to Davis, troopers responded to reports of a major accident on I-10 in Jefferson County near mile marker 834 at about 9 p.m.

Police in Port Arthur are investigating a fatality crash that claimed the life of a 78-year-old Houston man Sept. 11, reports the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

According to a news release from PAPD, officers responded to a major traffic accident in the 3500 block of S. MLK shortly after 9 p.m. Upon arrival to the location, officers discovered an apparently deceased male lying in the middle of the roadway.

Rain-slick roads resulting from weekend showers reportedly caused a driver to lose control and strike two pedestrians, injuring multiple people involved in the accident, reports Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) Detective Sadie Guedry.
