Results from the Nov. 8 election have raised questions about what will happen with what many call President Barack Obama’s greatest accomplishment and what others call a disaster — the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

In a meeting Jan. 26, 2015, Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell announced measurable goals and a timeline to move the Medicare program, and the health care system at large, toward paying providers based on the quality, rather than the quantity of care they give patients.

Christus Health Southeast Texas hosted a Community Planning Luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 14, ahead of the new period of enrollment in the Affordable Care Act, set to begin Nov. 15 and last 90 days. The luncheon invited community leaders from all over Southeast Texas to learn about the Affordable Care Act, a national health reform law and federal statute passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama, how it works and how they can identify the uninsured and help them get covered.
