The Lamar University softball team teamed with the softball team from Lamar State College-Port Arthur to raise $7,400 for the American Cancer Society.

The teams opened the day with a softball game that saw the Lady Cardinals claim a 5-0 victory. That was followed by a 5K run in the evening in which more than 200 runners participated.

The American Cancer Society is calling out to local cowboys and cowgirls to “saddle up” for the much-anticipated annual Southeast Texas Cattle Barons’ Ball, an event that not only features fine cuisine and Grammy Award-winning entertainment, but does so while at the same time investing in the battle against cancer.
