Two Beaumont men are behind bars following a bank robbery at the Dugood Federal Credit Union on July 27, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

According to a news release from Officer Haley Morrow, officers responded to the credit union at 7505 Eastex Freeway in Beaumont at 9:37 a.m. When officers arrived, they quickly obtained descriptions of the suspect and suspect vehicle reportedly involved in the bank robbery and disseminated the information to Beaumont patrol officers and detectives.

It’s been roughly five years since Syam Investments, its owner Shannon Mays and affiliates like Diana Broussard McCoy from Port Arthur were exposed in the pages of this newspaper for bilking hundreds of Southeast Texans out of tens of thousands of dollars. And since then, those who say they were victimized by the group have been waiting for some form of justice.

But now, with the suspected criminal mastermind behind bars, they may at long last get their day in court.

A 42-year-old Beaumont man has been arrested on federal charges in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston on July 12.

Westley Judy Pollard Jr. was indicted by a federal grand jury July 6 and charged with 11 counts of mail fraud. Pollard was arrested in Beaumont the morning of July 12 and went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zack Hawthorn for an initial appearance.


Liberty Police made two arrests in reference to a late night assault that took place on June 30, according to a news release from the department. Police responded to the 5000 block of Briar Grove in the Ridgewood subdivision shortly after 1 a.m. in reference to an assault. 


Police in Vidor arrested 21-year-old Trevor Duane Edwards May 4 after the manager of a fast food establishment where Edwards once worked said the former employee snuck behind the counter and into the manager’s office, stealing a wad of cash and fleeing in spite of being spotted in the act.


Police report that a woman suspected of robbing Capital One Bank in Orange on May 20, 2016, is in custody after allegedly robbing another bank in Louisiana, according to a news release from the Orange Police Department. 

Captain Robery Enmon reports that a lone white female suspect robbed the Orange bank, located at 3738 N. 16th St., in 2016. OPD and the FBI conducted an investigation, but no suspect was identified at that time.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Beaumont man March 13 who is a suspect in multiple burglaries, and recovered 15 grams of methamphetamine during the subsequent investigation, reports Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Captain Crystal Holmes.

According to a news release from Holmes, at about 2:30 p.m., deputies stopped a black Mitsubishi matching the description of a vehicle involved in several Beaumont burglaries highlighted on Crimestoppers.

On Monday, Feb. 27, at about 12:30 a.m. Beaumont Police conducted a traffic stop in the 5100 block of I-10 S.

During the stop, officers located about 23 grams of suspected MDMA (Ecstasy) and about 17 ounces of suspected marijuana, Officer Haley Morrow reported.

The three occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. They were transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

The suspects are identified as Jamie Butler, 24, Eddie Melton, 36, Tyrohnda Saffold, 26, all from Clarksdale, Mississippi.

With help from K-9 Gus, police tracked down and arrested two men Jan. 16 after the pair allegedly fled the scene following an aggravated robbery at the Heritage Inn, 2850 I-10 East in Beaumont.


Police have arrested a 68-year-old Vidor man who allegedly shot and killed a tenant renting a home on First Street following a dispute between the two parties, reports the Vidor Police Department (VPD).
