An alleged car thief was arrested after stealing a man's vehicle while the man was rendering aid to his son, who was having car trouble. The accused thief fled from police but soon discovered he could not outrun the long arm of the law.

The Beaumont Police Department confirmed Jan. 20 that an arrest was made in the Jan. 6 homicide of 27-year-old Derek Allen Phillips of Beaumont, who was reportedly discovered dead by his roommate at their shared residence in the 1300 block of Central Drive in Beaumont, near where West Lucas intersects with Gladys Avenue.

A 26-year-old Orange resident with numerous arrests over the past several months is in trouble yet again and facing multiple charges after allegedly trying to destroy evidence during a Friday night traffic stop in Orange. Two auto burglary suspects were admitted to St. Elizabeth Hospital after fleeing the scene and crashing their car into a responding patrol unit, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

The two officers suffered minor injuries and are recovering at home.  At about 3:44 a.m. this morning, several residents in Beaumont’s West End reported burglaries of their vehicles.

Detectives have identified three juvenile suspects in the July 5 attempted robbery of a postal worker that occurred in the 2100 block of Ives Street, the Beaumont Police Department said in a press release.

Detectives obtained felony warrants for all three suspects and have arrested all three. A 16-year-old, a 14-year-old and a 12-year-old, all female, were booked into the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Facility for a charge of attempted robbery, a third degree felony.

Twelve Southeast Texans were indicted and arrested on federal racketeering charges in connection with a “whites only” drug distribution ring, according to an announcement by U.S Attorney John M. Bales on March 11. Four of the defendants named in the indictment also face capital murder charges.
