It’s a gala evening of art, fine dining, dancing and entertainment as Lamar University hosts the 42nd annual Le Grand Bal on Saturday, March 25. This year’s theme, “Lamar University in Black and White,” features a musical retrospective of LU through the decades. Guests are encouraged to dress in black and white. Activities include a silent art auction at the Dishman Art Museum, as well as a gourmet buffet, libations, music and dancing in the Montagne Center.

The event is free and open to the public and will feature hands-on art activities, refreshments and entertainment designed to encourage families to explore the museum and learn more about the artwork on display.

Students of Little Cypress Junior High art teacher, Donna Cole, recently won ribbons and a first place medal for artwork that they entered in the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Contest.

The work of Raeleigh Underwood earned a gold medal and is being exhibited at the show in Houston.

Artists looking for a place to show off their latest creations need look no further than The Alternative Show at The Art Studio Inc. in June. This first-come, first-served art exhibition will take free submissions through June 2.

The show will open Saturday, June 4, with a reception from 7-10 p.m. in TASI’s gallery at 720 Franklin in downtown Beaumont. The exhibition runs through June 25.

The High Street Gallery will host an exhibition of drawings by Sheila Busceme on Friday, April 29, from 7-10 p.m. at the Victoria Houston, 2110 Victoria St., Beaumont.

“If I were to describe it, the closest descriptive word I could come up with would be ‘eclectic,’” said Busceme, a self-taught artist from Beaumont. “I love to explore different media. Some methods stay with me; some do not. As of now, I work in colored pencil, wax pastel, oil pastel, acrylics and sometimes watercolor.”
