The Art Museum of Southeast Texas

The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) is hosting two summer exhibitions — Sherry Owens: Fabric of Life and FRESH: Recent Acquisitions — through Sept. 10 in the main gallery.

Friday, June 16, AMSET will honor the artists and their works at an open reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dallas artist Sherry Owens will give a tour and gallery discussion.

Owens is renowned for her sculptures made of crepe myrtle trees, simultaneously evoking both the natural and otherworldly elements of the tree in her sculptures and installations.

The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) presents two dynamic exhibitions, tête-à-tête: Folk Art and Fine Art from the Permanent Collection,” a curatorial examination of similarities and differences in how artists explore related subjects; and TERESA BAKER: shape, line, what the eye is doing.

Both are currently on view through Sept. 4, and an opening reception for both will be held at AMSET (500 Main Street, Beaumont) on Friday, June 24, from 6-8 p.m.

Golden eye … The Art Museum of Southeast Texas invites everyone to Go for the Gold on Thursday, March 10, for a chance to win $10,000 in gold or other fantastic prizes at its annual reverse drawing. Join them in the “Goldfinger” theme this year, as they encourage guests to channel their inner spy and dress in James Bond inspired garb (that seems to mean black to this columnist).
