Statement from the Beaumont Police Department:

On April 26 and May 10, two devices were discovered by the Beaumont Police Department; the second device caused damage at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Our law enforcement officers and police staff all take this investigation very seriously and we are working tirelessly with our allied partners to protect the citizens of our community. Keeping everyone safe is our shared and number one priority. Thankfully, to date no one has been injured.

Police in Beaumont arrested a 51-year-old Beaumont man Sept. 20 when the man fled the scene of a traffic stop and then, once cornered, threatened officers with a grenade, reports Officer Haley Walters of the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

Jimmy Duriso was taken into federal custody along with 41 lbs of synthetic pot.

Beaumont narcotics detectives and officers with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have reportedly recovered 41 pounds of what they believe to be synthetic marijuana hidden inside a local auto repair shop and arrested one suspect in connection to a federal search warrant executed Sept. 7, Beaumont Police Department Officer Carol Riley reported.

Grenade

Police in Beaumont recovered a live grenade from the GI Surplus store in the 5700 block of College Street on Sept. 14 when a man asked about the explosive item at the store after finding it while cleaning out his uncle's apartment, according the Beaumont Police Department.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals and the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) arrested a local man in connection with the robberies and shootings of four Jasper County residents, reports the sheriff’s office.

The Hamshire-Fannett Elementary School in the 2300 block of Burrell-Wingate Road in Jefferson County is closed indefinitely and classes for students have been canceled through Friday, March 21, after an early morning fire March 18 devastated the educational facility.

According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the ATF is investigating a “suspicious device” found on a dirt road at mile marker 778 on Highway 12 in Deweyville near Deweyville High School. Newton County Sgt. Josh Hancock said his office received a call from Samson Energy employees Monday morning, Oct. 15.
