Beaumont Community Players

The Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts is in the midst of hosting “Steel Magnolias” for three shows this weekend beginning Friday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. and two on Saturday, April 15, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Written by Robert Harling as a play, “Steel Magnolias” made its Off-Broadway debut in 1987 then was adapted as a big screen release in 1989 starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirly MacLaine, Julia Roberts and Daryl Hannah. It finally made its Broadway debut in 2005 at the Lyceum Theatre.

The Boomtown Film and Music Festival is celebrating it’s 10th year in Beaumont. Feb. 23-26, 2017, experience a diverse lineup of independent films from local, national and international filmmakers, as well as independent musicians that cross all genres.

Here’s a quick overview of some of the talent and events #BoomFestX has to offer!

Thursday, Feb. 23

Music at The LogOn Cafe (3805 Calder Ave., Beaumont) from 8 to after 11 p.m. with have five acts, including local artist Rob Wellz and indie/folk rockers The Cover Letter from Austin.

Beaumont Community Players presents Xanadu — a story of love, Greek mythology and roller-skating. The performances will take place at the Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts at 4155 Laurel Ave. on Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. with additional shows March 3-4 and 9-11. The March 4 performance will be a matinee with a special start time of 2 p.m.

She Kills Monsters

Monsters, swordfights and blood-thirsty, bullying cheerleaders capture the stage this October in a comedic, action-packed production of “She Kills Monsters” by Qui Nguyen, presented by Beaumont Community Players in collaboration with Ad Hoc Beaumont.

The Beaumont Community Players will open its concert season Friday, Sept. 30, in the Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts (4155 Laurel St) with a performance by the Jimmy Simmons Orchestra with special guest vocalists and BCP alumni Dionne Fontenot and Sharon Montgomery. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at beaumontcommunityplayers.com. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Beaumont Community Players Kidmunity summer theater camp will perform Shrek, the Musical from Thursday, July 21, through Saturday, July 23, at the McFaddin Ward Auditorium inside the Betty Greenberg Center for the Performing Arts at 4155 Laurel in Beaumont. Tickets for the 7 p.m. performances can be purchased online at beaumontcommunityplayers.com or at the Theater. Adult tickets are $15, students $10.

On June 11, a gunman opened fire in the Pulse nightclub, a gay bar in Orlando, Florida, killing 49 people and injuring another 53 before being gunned down by police after holding hostages inside the club for hours.

Beaumont Community Players will host six productions of Rent: The Musical on the McFaddin-Ward Auditorium stage inside the Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts (4155 Laurel Ave.) on May 13-14 and May 19-21. Show times are 7:30 p.m. each night with a matinee May 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $40 (cabaret seats), $25 (adults) or $23 (65 years and older, students 21 and younger).

All hail the king … Tuesday afternoon, March 29, the 68th Neches River Festival king and his escorts traveled down the Neches River and docked at the Beaumont Country Club.

The Beaumont Community Players invite you to laugh along with their latest production of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple beginning Friday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts at 4155 Laurel Ave. Show dates are April 1-2, 8-9, 15-16 with a 2 p.m. matinee on April 9.

The Odd Couple debuted in 1965, won a Tony Award, and spawned multiple revivals, including a popular network television show, movie and even a female version of the show.
