A retired Beaumont firefighter who paid a local contractor to remodel a rental home more than three years ago is still fighting to recover more than $14,000 of that money for work he says went undone.

Wednesday, Jan. 18, just after 10:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Cartwright Street, Beaumont Fire-Rescue received a call for a house fire, Beaumont Fire Department Captain Jimmy Blanchard reported.

Beaumont Fire-Rescue personnel responded and found a single story home heavily involved with fire. The homeowner was on scene and reported being asleep when he was awakened by the fire. The home sustained heavy fire damage.

After investigation, the fire was determined to be accidental, being caused by a clothes dryer.

On Saturday, Dec. 17 shortly after 7:30 pm, Beaumont Fire dispatch received multiple calls of a house on fire in the 5200 block of Wildwood Drive, in the north end of Beaumont, Beaumont Fire Department Captain Jimmy Blanchard reported Dec. 18.

It took firefighters more than an hour to extinguish a large blaze that devastated a Wall Street home in Beaumont May 22, Beaumont Fire-Rescue reported Sunday.

Although Beaumont Fire-Rescue firefighters responding to a structure fire at a local residence quickly extinguished the blaze, a 61-year-old male resident of the home was discovered deceased in a room near the source of the fire.

 Structure fire at 1095 Alabama

At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a reported structure fire at the Alabama Garden Apartments, located at 1095 Alabama.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, a caller to 911 reported flames showing from the roof of Beaumont Bolt & Gasket, located at 1040 Fannin. According to Beaumont Fire Rescue Captain Brad Penisson, when Beaumont firefighters arrived there were flames and smoke visible from the roof.

At approximately 2:38 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, November 24, 2015, Beaumont firefighters responded to a 911 call that was received reporting smoke coming from the Super Food Store, located at 1410 West Virginia. Once on scene, firefighters had to force entry to security panels on the exterior of the building. They entered the building and found heavy fire and smoke conditions in the interior of the building.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2015, Beaumont Fire Rescue firefighters responded to a structure fire at 3150 Cleveland. According to Captain Brad Penisson of the Beaumont Fire Department, when firefighters arrived, they found the rear portion of the home engulfed in flames. The occupants of the residence were able to escape without injury before firefighters arrived.

Beaumont Fire Rescue has deployed members of its Wildland Firefighting Team to the Bastrop area to assist the Texas Forest Service on the wildland fires there. Three firefighters left the afternoon of Oct. 14 with the wildland fire truck to be a part of a strike team once they arrive. They may be deployed for a period of 10 to 14 days before being released.
