Patricia Lambert

Admitted embezzler and former Beaumont Independent School District assistant superintendent Patricia Adams Collins Lambert was sentenced to spend 40 months in prison and pay back $500,000 in restitution. The charges stemmed from theft from programs receiving federal funds and conspiracy to submit false statements concerning standardized test scores while she was employed with the local school district.

May 26, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas added another prosecutor to the sentencing case of former Beaumont Independent School District administrators Patricia Adams Collins Lambert and Victoria Steward. According to a filing at the court, Assistant United States Attorney Robert Wells of Tyler was added as co-counsel in the case.

Beaumont ISD named its 2016-2017 Teachers of the Year at the Celebration of Excellence Gala held May 13. Dishman Elementary School Teacher Wanda Brooks was named the 2016-2017 BISD Elementary Division Teacher of the Year, and Vincent Middle School Teacher Melissa Chapman was named the 2016-2017 BISD Secondary Division Teacher of the Year.

May 4, the Court of Criminal Appeals refused to hear an appeal from former Beaumont Independent School District Special Assistant to the Superintendent Jessie Haynes related to a criminal conviction handed down by a jury in May 2014.

The Class B misdemeanor conviction carried a sentence of two years probation, a $2,000 fine and community service, and Haynes was instructed to take a series of betterment classes, including anger management classes.

A federal court judge has recommended dismissing two more defendants from the civil complaint lodged by former Beaumont Independent School District contract electrician Calvin Walker and former school district Special Assistant to the Superintendent Jessie Haynes that alleges a mass conspiracy of roughly three dozen persons and businesses.

According to information from Beaumont Independent School District Special Assistant to the Superintendent Nakisha Burns, a BISD Central High School student has reported a sexual assault that allegedly occurred on the campus grounds. BISD police are investigating.

Beaumont Independent School District Ozen High School teacher Mary Hastings was removed from the classroom and subsequently arrested after a student-produced video showing the educator hitting another student during classroom instruction made it to a social media outlet. The video surfaced April 8, and it didn’t take long for the footage to go viral, ending up on mainstream media outlets throughout the nation.

The same day BISD officials learned of the incident, Hastings was relieved of duty.
