Beaumont Animal Services won another battle in the war against animal cruelty on Jan. 21, reports Beaumont Animal Services and the Beaumont Police Department.

Beaumont Animal Services was granted full custody of a remaining, living dog that was seized last weekend, Saturday, Jan. 16, BPD revealed in a news release. Justice of the Peace Nancy Beaulieu presided over the seizure hearing, and after testimony from both the Animal Services Officer and the dog owner in question, granted Animal Services full custody of the dog.

On Sunday, January 3, 2016, at approximately 9:25 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at Popeye’s Chicken, located at 6432 Phelan Blvd in Beaumont. According to Beaumont police officer Carol Riley, officers were advised via dispatch that a suspect had a gun to the head of an employee and some of the employees fled the store on foot through the back door.

Officers arrived in the area and began searching for the suspects.

On Saturday, December 26, 2015, Beaumont Police Officers were dispatched to the Forest Lawn cemetery in reference to the theft of 10 urns, containing cremated human remains. A similar incident occurred in late October in which 9 urns had been taken.

On December 26, 2015, around 2:21 a.m., Beaumont police officers responded to the Ok Rodeo Disco Club, located at 6035 S. Martin Luther King, in reference to a disturbance with shots fired.

At around 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015, Beaumont police officers observed an ongoing domestic disturbance while attempting to stop a vehicle which was being driven erratically through the parking lot of the Speedy Stop at Major and College.

On Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 12:30 a.m., Beaumont police responded to a victim of a shooting at 1410 Pipkin. Upon arrival, officers found a victim with two gunshot wounds. The victim claimed that as he was returning home around midnight, two subjects attacked him outside his home.

Louis A. Hamilton, of Beaumont, was sentenced today to ten years in prison. Hamilton was found to have violated the terms of his probation due to a new offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2015, Beaumont police officers responded to a disturbance in the vicinity of the Regent Apartments near Gulf Avenue. 

According to Officer Joe Ornelas, while officers attempted to handle the disturbance they were called out for, shots rang out nearby, prompting the officers to take cover. One officer was hit with what he believed to be a pellet, and was not injured.

At approximately 7:44 a.m. Tuesday morning, December 15, 2015, Beaumont police officers responded to a collision that occurred in the 9200 block of College Street.

According to a Beaumont Police Department spokesperson, the collision involved a white 2010 Jeep and a red 1995 Acura. Both vehicles had to be towed, and one person was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with unknown injuries. There are no more details to be released at this time, as the police department is awaiting the crash report.

Beaumont Animal Services and the Beaumont Police Department are “begging” for bones, beds, blankets and more on behalf of their furry friends at the animal shelter this holiday season.
