Cache of stolen weapons

Tuesday evening, July 17, the Beaumont Police Department detained five suspects in the 7100 block of Eastex who are believed to be involved in numerous burglaries throughout the City of Beaumont and Jefferson County. 

“The suspects were in possession of a cache of stolen weapons and other property,” an information release from BPD states. “This is the early stages of the investigation as detectives are interviewing the suspects and following up with more information.”

Beaumont Police Department is hosting the Citizen’s Police Academy Thursday, August 9. The training program is free and lasts 15 weeks that meet every Thursday starting August 9 and ends November 15. The weekly class starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m. There are also two hands on-training classes that are on Saturday.

The program is for adults who are 18 and older. It is held two times each year and was designed to educate and expose community members to the operations of law enforcement.

Participants must apply and be registered to participate.

A Beaumont man, possibly the victim of a drowning, was pronounced deceased Saturday, June 23.

According to Officer Haley Morrow, Beaumont Police responded to Lancaster Cornwall Apartments at 6650 Prutzman, in reference to assisting Fire and EMS with a possible drowning victim. The victim, identified as Arnold Smith, a 39-year-old Beaumont man, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. 

At this time, it does not appear to be foul play.

Two teens are in police custody for after allegedly being caught "carhopping" in the early morning hours of June 22, reports Officer Carol Riley of the Beaumont Police Department.

The CVS on College and 11th was robbed in the afternoon of Wednesday, June 20. Officer Cody Guedry reported that Beaumont Police responded to the robbery-in-progress and arrived at the CVS within a minute, however the suspect already left the scene.

Beaumont Police Department announces that BPD Officers will be working with 7-Eleven to dispense Slurpee drink coupons to children and youth as part of the convenient store chain’s Operation Chill community-service program this summer. 

7-Eleven will issue up to 1.4 million Slurpee coupons to almost 1,100 law enforcement agencies; over 500 of those will be distributed in Beaumont, most during the summer months and back-to-school season.

The Beaumont Police Department (BPD) has released a statement concerning a crime trend occurring within Beaumont.The crime trend consists of thieves targeting victims through the LetGo mobile app to steal items from sellers.

Derek Scott Marshall, a 46-year-old Beaumont man, was arrested by Beaumont Police Department after holding two Jack in the Box employees at gun point, the morning of Wednesday, June 20.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas Joe Brown announced Friday, May 25, that 40-year-old Jonathan Torres has been arrested in connection to two verified explosive devices left at locations in Beaumont’s West End as well as taunting police with correspondence such as a postcard reading, "Would you like to play a game?"

On April 26 and May 10, two devices were discovered by the Beaumont Police Department; the second device caused damage at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Our law enforcement officers and police staff all take this investigation very seriously and we are working tirelessly with our allied partners to protect the citizens of our community. Keeping everyone safe is our shared and number one priority. Thankfully, to date no one has been injured.
