The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that, two Greek shipping companies, Avin International LTD, and Nicos I.V. Special Maritime Enterprises, pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court in Beaumont to charges stemming from several discharges of oil into the waters of Texas ports by the oil tanker M/T Nicos I.V., announced Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Bossert Clark for the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division and United States Attorney Joseph D. Brown for the Eastern District of Texas.

Starting Monday, Nov. 26, multiple roads will be experiencing lane closures and detours to accommodate the installation of a natural gas line for CenterPoint Energy, with construction expected to end in early March 2019, in the area immediately south of the Port of Beaumont and west of Exxon Mobil. 

The closures include Buford Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to East of Carroll Street, Pennsylvania Avenue from Buford Street to Emmett Avenue, Emmett Avenue from Blanchette Street to Pennsylvania Avenue and Blanchette Street from Archie Street to Emmett Avenue.

There will be a Ward 4 Town Hall Meeting hosted by Mayor Pro-Tem/Ward 4 Councilmember Robin Mouton on Thursday, Nov. 1 starting at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m. at Central park Community Center. Donald Olivier, a 72-year-old Vidor man was killed the morning of Thursday, Nov. 1 after being by hit by a white Hyundai SUV travelling south on 11thStreet when it moved to the center lane to make a left turn on to Broadway, according to preliminary investigations by Beaumont Police. Beaumont EMS transported Olivier to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Beaumont City Council has made Beaumont as a Bee City thanks to a vote by council on Oct. 23, making it the 77thBee City in the nation. The title brings with it the designation of the Bee City Beaumont Committee as facilitators of Beaumont’s new efforts to engage the community in promoting pollinator conservation and celebrating being a Bee City USA community by proclaiming the brand with public awareness activities.
