Refining giant ExxonMobil, the chief sponsor of the Beaumont Police Department’s Cops & Kids program, made a generous and substantial donation to Cops & Kids, which focuses on uniting the youth of Beaumont with law enforcers.

On Feb. 9, ExxonMobil Refinery Manager Fernando Salazar and other refinery representatives joined Chief Jimmy Singletary, Mayor Becky Ames, numerous officers and other friends of the community in the main lobby at BPD to present Cops & Kids representatives with a check for $5,000.

Detectives are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting of a 35-year-old Beaumont man on Jan. 31, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

Beaumont Police Narcotics Unit, along with the assistance of the department's S.W.A.T. team, Special Assignment Unit, K-9 Unit, and The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, executed a search warrant Jan. 30 that resulted in the seizure of a variety of narcotics and weapons, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

Fire on Youngstown Street

Firefighters in Beaumont made short work of dousing a residential fire on the morning of Feb. 4, according to a news release from Beaumont Fire Rescue.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire in the 3800 block of Youngstown Street reported by multiple callers. Upon arrival, firefighters reportedly saw flames coming from one room of the home. They made “a quick attack and were able to confine the fire to one room,” reports the department.

Beaumont police are searching for suspects in an armed robbery of a Family Dollar in which six people were robbed and held at gunpoint, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

According to a news release from BPD, Wednesday, January 21, at 8:38 p.m. officers responded to the Family Dollar at 6010 Hwy. 105 in reference to a possible robbery.

An alleged car thief was arrested after stealing a man's vehicle while the man was rendering aid to his son, who was having car trouble. The accused thief fled from police but soon discovered he could not outrun the long arm of the law.

A potential tragedy was averted due to the assistance of Beaumont Police Department patrol officers, dispatchers and a "Good Samaritan" when a blind man became disoriented and lost in the heavy fog, reports BPD.

Early Wednesday morning at about 4:53 a.m., BPD's 911 Dispatch Center received a phone call from a 49-year-old Beaumont man who stated that he was lost somewhere in the city. He told dispatchers that he was blind and somewhat disoriented.
