Event Centre

After more than a year of legal maneuvering and mediation, the City of Beaumont has approved a settlement with contractor C.F. Jordan and made the final payment for the city’s newest venue, the Event Centre.

Police arrested 26-year-old Moses Green of Beaumont on Sunday, April 21, for multiple charges, including assault on a public servant, after responding to a call of a disturbance at an apartment in the 5000 block of Helbig Road at approximately 3:15 a.m.

Twelve workers at ExxonMobil’s Beaumont plant were injured when an explosion rocked the facility about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17.

According to Beaumont Fire Department spokesman Brad Penisson, three of the 12 workers were critically injured and sustained severe burns as a result of the fire.

All were transported to local hospitals by ambulances — at least 10 of which could be seen entering and exiting the ExxonMobil facility about 11 a.m.

A 28-year-old Beaumont man has been sentenced to federal prison for burglarizing a bank in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.

Michael Anthony Jones pleaded guilty of bank burglary on January 14 and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison today, April 5, by U.S. District Judge Marcia Crone. Jones was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,908.50.

The Woman's Club of Beaumont is having a style show featuring clothes from JC Penney stores and a luncheon Thursday, March 7 at their Clubhouse located at 575 Magnolia St. in Beaumont. The cost to get in is $15, but club president Dorothy Bourque said that is an outstanding value for lunch and fashion combined. Bourque said she is looking forward to the event and hopes attendance is high.

United States Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a Beaumont man has pled guilty to federal carjacking charges in the Eastern District of Texas.

Southeast Texans might have noticed smoke in the area today and could be curious where it is coming from. According to Larry Jinks, former fire chief and a volunteer firefighter at Johnson Bayou (Louisiana) Fire Department, the smoke is coming from an out-of-control marsh fire in Cameron Parish.
