Effective Tuesday, Feb. 27, Old Calder Avenue at Phelan Boulevard to Pinchback Road will be partially closed to one-lane, two-way traffic. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic. This closure will facilitate Phase I of the resurfacing of Old Calder Avenue.  Phase I of this project will remain closed until further notice.

Phase II of this project will commence once Phase I is complete.  An updated Press Release will be provided upon commencement of Phase II. This project is expected to be completed by June 27, 2018.

Police in Beaumont are investigating a shooting that left one woman injured, reports Officer Carol Riley.

According to Riley, officers responded to the area of Tulane and St. Helena in reference to a shooting at 8:25 p.m. Feb. 25. The victim told police that her boyfriend shot her at their residence in the 2200 block of  Earl.

The fourth annual John French Museum Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday, March 31, at 1 p.m. on the grounds of the historic John Jay French Museum. Bring your camera and take photos with the Easter Bunny, make a craft, tour the first floor of the French home, and of course, enjoy the egg hunt with three separate areas divided by age group. It promises to be a fun way to experience this Beaumont historical treasure. Tickets are $5 per person ages 4 and up, and all proceeds benefit the John Jay French Museum and its mission of promoting historical education and preservation in Beaumont.

The victim of an auto theft in Beaumont used a cell phone signal to find his stolen car and followed the woman driving it until Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) deputies caught up and arrested her Jan. 7, reports Capt. Crystal Holmes.
