Frances Tortorice Coco

Frances Tortorice Coco of Beaumont died peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the age of 90. The youngest daughter of Sam and Rosa Tortorice, she was born on Aug. 19, 1927, in Beaumont.

She is survived by her son, Rusty Coco, and daughter, Marian Broussard and her husband, Pat, all of Beaumont; seven grandchildren; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Coco is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent James "V.J." Coco; her parents, Sam and Rosa Tortorice; her brothers Johnny, Vic, Jake and Joe Tortorice Sr.; and her sister, Mary Tortorice Sanderson.

A suspicious package was allegedly reported in the area of HEB grocery and Bay Bright car wash on Dowlen Road in Beaumont the morning of Tuesday, May 22, according to employees of nearby businesses. Traffic was being diverted in the area, with limited access to properties and stores.

Additional information from police at the scene detailed the scenario as first responders and bomb squad officers arrived to find an unattended box left in the median of the roadway between Alter’s Gem Jewelers and Delaware Street.

Deputies investigating a burglary in Jefferson County May 11 arrested four men on burglary and firearms charges, one of whom was apparently prepared for combat as he was wearing protective body armor when taken into custody, reports Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) Capt. Crystal Holmes.

Revis Rashon Adams, a 34-year-old Beaumont man was arrested on Monday, May 7. According to a press release, Beaumont Police Department detectives "have been working tirelessly" on the shooting that occurred at Ewing and North, which resulted in the homicide of 52-year-old Beaumont man Gregory Willridge on May 3.

Stagg Drive from I-10 frontage road to 11th Street will be resurfaced on Monday, May 14. According to a press release, one lane each way will be open to traffic during the resurfacing project. This project is expected to be complete on or before June 14.

Schedules for construction, maintenance, and repairs are subject to change, including extensions and postponement, due to weather or other factors.

Motorists are asked to be aware of all detour signs and advance warnings, and to proceed with caution.

Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Friday, May 4, that a Jefferson County jury found Sean Lavergne, 30, of Beaumont guilty of murder in the September 12, 2015, death of Reggie Jokodolo. The trial was conducted in the 252nd District Court.
