A 75-year-old Beaumont doctor has been sentenced to federal prison for health care fraud violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales Dec. 18.

John Q. A. Webb, Jr., now living in Houston, pleaded guilty on July 23, 2014 to conspiracy to commit health care fraud and was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Ron Clark.

In October, The Examiner reported in-depth on the upward trend of use of the deadly drug phencyclidine in Southeast Texas. At the time, Beaumont Police Department Sgt. Bryan Baker said that PCP use has increased significantly in the area throughout the years.

“Drugs tend to follow a trend,” explains Baker. “They go in cycles.”

He said currently PCP use is up, and he and his fellow narcotics officers are seeing much larger quantities during busts.

Beaumont Police Department detectives have five suspects in the murder of two men that occurred in the 3300 block of Roland Road on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014. All suspects are currently in the custody of BPD and will be booked in for murder, the department said in a press release.

Police say the murders occurred as the result of a drug deal that turned into a robbery attempt.
