Beaumont Police Department (BPD) released a statement Tuesday, Dec. 18 warning Southeast Texans of a scam phone call. According to the statement, BPD was made aware of a scam in which the victim received a phone call from someone who identified themselves as a Beaumont Police officer calling in reference to warrants.

Two alleged Beaumont burglars were busted after the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office investigated a burglary in the 11000 block of West Clubb Road that was reported Monday, Dec.10.

Two men were arrested after police responded to a tip about suspicious activity in the 4600 block of Collier in Beaumont.

Update: 

The suspect, a 15-year-old on juvenile probation for a similar crime, in the Kroger carjacking was arrested Friday, Dec. 7, on a aggravated robbery charge.

A 40-year-old Houston man has been convicted of drug trafficking and money laundering violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown Dec. 4.

John D. Leontaritis, owner and operator of Vanderhall Exotics of Houston, and former owner operator of Global Motorcars of Houston, car dealerships that specialize in exotic, luxury automobiles, was found guilty by a jury Dec. 4 following a six-day trial before U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

An unsuccessful “smash and grab” is being investigated after a pick up truck backed into the doors of a Walgreens on the corner of College and 11th around 5 a.m. on Nov. 30. 

According to Beaumont Police, the unsuccessful crime involved multiple suspects who are suspected of trying to rob the location of its ATM by making entry through the collision. The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

A head on collision took one life and left several others injured the evening of Nov. 29 on SH 326 in Hardin County, roughly 2 miles from Kountze, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Initial reports indicate that a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling northbound on SH 326, while a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound.  For an unknown reason, the driver of the Dodge crossed the center diving line and collided head-on with the Chevrolet pickup truck.

The Elmo Willard Branch Library will be ending 2018 with a bang by throwing a New Year’s Eve Celebration for Families on Monday, December 31 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The party will have fun and games including a scavenger hunt, limbo and Pictionary. Family photos will be taken and karaoke will also be available. Snacks will be provided during the last hour of the party & door prizes will be drawn during the last half hour. The event will end with a countdown that will start at 2:55 p.m.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that, two Greek shipping companies, Avin International LTD, and Nicos I.V. Special Maritime Enterprises, pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court in Beaumont to charges stemming from several discharges of oil into the waters of Texas ports by the oil tanker M/T Nicos I.V., announced Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Bossert Clark for the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division and United States Attorney Joseph D. Brown for the Eastern District of Texas.
