Parents were notified Wednesday night, Feb. 21, that Beaumont Independent School District campuses would be participating in safety training on Thursday, Feb. 22, and Friday, Feb. 23.

“Please be advised that the district is conducting lockdown intruder drills on all secondary campuses on tomorrow and Friday,” BISD spokesperson Nakisha Burns advised. “The drills will be under the direction of the Beaumont ISD Police Department.”

Feb. 15, the Beaumont ISD Board of Managers approved the name, mascot and colors for the soon to be merged Central and Ozen campuses. The Beaumont United High School, maroon and gold Timberwolves will combine for the 2018-19 semester under the leadership of Ron Jackson, who was also named principal at the meeting. Prior to the vote naming the new campus, Superintendent Dr. John Frossard, laid out a restructuring plan for the new campus that detailed leadership positions, introduced a 9th grade academy and focused on existing and future magnet program options.


From the Texas Education Agency: Commissioner of Education Mike Morath notified leadership in the Beaumont Independent School District on Tuesday, Feb. 6, that the transition from the current appointed Board of Managers to an elected Board of Trustees will begin.

Beaumont ISD has announced that Feb. 14, which was originally scheduled as an early release day, will now be a regular school day due to the days missed in inclement weather.

The Beaumont Public Schools Foundation (BPSF) grant caravan stopped at seven Beaumont Independent School District campuses Dec. 1 to make teachers’ and students’ wishes come true with hands-on educational tools that inspire creative learning in the classroom.

Members and friends of the foundation rode out with the BPSF Grant Caravan bus Friday to drop off the learning tools requested, and to present winning educators with glass apples in recognition of their dedication to academic excellence.

With appeals exhausted, the 2016-17 Texas Education Agency (TEA) FIRST ratings were officially released this week, scoring the financial accountability of the state’s districts and open-enrollment charter schools. When a community suffers a natural disaster, sometimes it’s the little things that help residents return to normal, like being able to check out books at the library.

After Hurricane Harvey, officials found mold growing inside Central High School buildings, as previously reported by The Examiner.

Freshman still meet on the campus in buildings that weren’t affected. Tenth through 12th-grade students are meeting at the building that used to be Stephen F. Austin Middle School, according to BISD spokesperson Nakisha Burns.
