Saturday, Jan. 20, at approximately 12:02 a.m., Beaumont PD officers were patrolling the area of 1055 I-10 S. Officers attempted to stop  a silver Toyota Prius with two passengers. The driver fled and led officers on a lengthy pursuit. The pursuit ended near Laurel and First streets. The driver was identified as Robert Sanders, 25-year-old man from Santa Fe, Texas. He was arrested for evading in a motor vehicle and an outstanding parole warrant for a previous charge of felon in possession of a firearm.  He was then taken into custody without further incident.

Sherecole Wilridge

Monday, Nov. 6, at about 8:26 a.m., Beaumont police responded to a disturbance in the 1200 block of Ranier. A preliminary investigation revealed that an altercation had occurred between Sherecole Wilridge, a 32-year-old Beaumont woman, and her child’s father. During the altercation, Wilridge retrieved a handgun and shot the victim. The victim’s injury was not life threatening; he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Detective’s interviewed witnesses and Wilridge was placed under arrested for aggravated assault – family violence.

Charles Henry Hawkins

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Nov. 3 that a jury has found Charles Henry Hawkins, 57, guilty of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony. The jury assessed Hawkins’ punishment at 10 years confinement in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a $10,000 fine. Hawkins was formally sentenced by Judge Raquel West.

Three Mid-County men have been indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury in separate cases on charges ranging from physical to sexual violence against children and, in one of the cases, against an intellectually challenged 20-year-old.

Charles Orlando Betancourt, 31, of Port Neches was indicted for aggravated sexual assault of a child March 29 stemming from accusations he sexually assaulted his 3-year-old daughter on multiple occasions.

Vernon Ray Strong

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Monday, Nov. 21, that Vernon Ray Strong, 63, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced by Judge John B. Stevens, Jr. to 20 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Police arrested an apparently intoxicated man found lying in a ditch filled with water while holding a 1-year-old child in his arms Aug. 29, reports Orange Police Department Officer Michael Roush.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, DPS troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 90 and Turner Road in China, Texas. Three people were transported to St. Elizabeth hospital.

Stevie Blaschke Hanke

A Beaumont man was found guilty and sentenced to 50 years in prison Wednesday, July 23, 2014, for sexual assault of a child.

Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw announced in a press release that Stevie Blaschke Hanke, 40, was found guilty and sentenced by Senior Criminal District Judge Larry Gist for the March 2, 2012, sexual assault of his nine-year-old stepdaughter.  The jury returned the verdict after less than 15 minutes of deliberation.
