In the pantheon of animated studios, Pixar remains the best, not only for the high-quality graphics, but for the storylines and characters as well. It’s been almost 15 years since the first “Incredibles” premiered in 2004. It was a huge hit then and outshined such luminaries as “Toy Story 2” and “Shrek.” So my only complaint about this movie is why did it take so long to get here?

‘Disobedience’

Starring: Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams

Directed by: Sebastian Lelio

Rated: R

Earlier this year, director Sebastian Lelio’s “A Fantastic Woman” took home the Best Foreign Film Oscar, and he’s in the midst of remaking “Gloria” with Julianne Moore taking on the iconic Gena Rowlands role. Somewhere in between, he managed to direct and write (along with Rebecca Lenkiewicz) this adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s novel.

Lesley Manville and Daniel Day-Lewis in Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread

For a director so devoted to his own material and vision, Paul Thomas Anderson has suffused his latest film with delicate notes of Hitchcock that recall the classic “Rebecca.” Prior to its release, very little was known about “Phantom Thread,” save for the fact its star, Daniel Day Lewis, has declared this to be his last movie. Based on his stellar performance in this, I hope he will change his mind.
