New Beaumont fire chief Earl White addressed City Council.

The city of Beaumont selected retired firefighter and Pct. 1 Constable Earl White as its new fire chief during a City Council meeting April 24. White was selected as the top choice out of more than 80 applicants.

White retired from Beaumont Fire-Rescue after 35 years of service to the community as a firefighter and arson investigator, and he then continued to serve Southeast Texas in another capacity. White took the oath of office as the Pct. 1 constable in March 2016 shortly after his win in the Democratic primary.

The City of Beaumont’s annual Rocktoberfest will take place Friday, Oct. 27, at the Jefferson Theatre with both inside and outside events. Sponsored by Saint Arnold Brewing Company and 2-Row/Del Papa Distributing, gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and feature food, beer and musical entertainment from the John Evans Band along with Cranford Hollow. There will also be a screening of the 1975 iconic musical screwball comedy The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 9 p.m.

Paul Childers

The City of Beaumont will host Oktoberfest at Rogers Park on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 3-8 p.m., a free event for all agents. There will be a beer garden, food and plenty of entertainment from performances by Paul Childers, Mayeaux & Broussard and a polka performance from the Royal Klobasneks. From Nashville, Childers is a new breed of singer/songwriters and guitarists. He is trying to challenge everything you thought you knew about the future of music.

The city of Beaumont will host a “Dive-In” movie night at Alice Keith Pool on Saturday, Aug. 5, with the showing of the 2016 animation comedy Sing at dusk. Featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson and John C. Reilly, Sing tells the story of a city of humanoid animals, where a hustling theater impresario’s attempt to save his theater with a singing competition becomes grander than he anticipates even as its finalists’ find that their lives will never be the same. The City of Beaumont is hosting a multi-day Hispanic heritage celebration on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14, at the Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. Viva Fest will kick off the festivities May 13 with live music by Sandy G y los Gavilanes followed by the movie Frida. Ticket are $5 for May 13.
