7th Street oak trees

 

With the City of Beaumont gearing up for its multi-million-dollar Seventh Street project, some homeowners in the area aren’t happy the city has cut down some of the oldest trees in Old Town. 

“This one is 100 years or more,” said one Old Town resident who asked to be identified only as “Judy.”

Water main break at 11th Street

After at least three days of on-and-off rain, a major water line in Beaumont gave way, temporarily muddying resident’s drinking water in Old Town and surrounding areas. 

At about 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, city crews were called to an 8-inch water main break on 11th Street near Gladys.

Jimmy Simmons Boulevard officially became part of the Lamar University landscape Friday, March 1, 2013, with the unveiling of street signs and a tribute to Simmons and his wife, Susan, in the historic McDonald Gym.

The Pep Band and national-champion Cheerleading Team added Cardinal Spirit to the occasion, while two rows of Simmons children and grandchildren – including three new grandchildren in strollers – brought proud introductions from the stage.
