The City of Port Arthur will once again host the Annual Cultural Lighted Holiday Parade Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 starting at 6 p.m. The parade route is down Procter Street to Houston Avenue.

All vehicles will enter the Performing Arts parking lot at Lamar State College-Port Arthur from Lakeshore Drive.

The Port Arthur Downtown Revitalization Plan won the Long Range Planning Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association on Nov. 4. The Texas Chapter of the APA named the city’s plan as the only recipient of the long range recognition at their annual conference.

Port Arthur’s revitalization plan is “the first in the nation” to integrate an analysis of the market, infrastructure, economic development, capital improvement plans and urban design in one document, according to a statement from the City of Port Arthur released Nov. 18.

Port Arthur City Council is currently discussing an update of the city’s logo and slogan. This topic was on the agenda at the last regular city council meeting on Sept. 20.

The current logo and slogan have been used for over 40 years, according to a statement released on Monday.

During the conversation, Tiffany Hamilton, District 2 Councilwoman said that rebranding “has been a long time coming,” according to the statement.

Police have arrested a Port Arthur city employee for aggregate theft of a public servant amid accusations that she used her position as Grants Accountant to alter payroll records and pocket diverted funds, fundamentally stealing from the city and the taxpayers, Lt. M. Blitch of the Port Arthur Police Department reports. In addition to the theft charges she faces, 24 felony counts of tampering with a government record are pending against 33-year-old Alicia Skye Taylor of Port Arthur.

Leblanc

Former city of Port Arthur Water Meter Services Department Supervisor, 57-year-old Robert Leblanc, 57, was indicted in Jefferson County Feb. 3 on five counts of theft by a public servant.

Leblanc was arrested Jan. 5 amid accusations of metal theft from the city he once served. At the time of his arrest, Leblanc worked as a football referee for the Houston Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials.
