The Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce is asking for assistance in raising $22,000 for Coast Guard service men and women who are not receiving their regular paychecks due to the partial federal government shutdown.

MIAMI — The Coast Guard planned to suspend the search for possible survivors from the cargo ship El Faro at sunset Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015.

The El Faro is believed to have sunk during Hurricane Joaquin.

Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, Air National Guard and tugboat crews searched more than 183,000 square nautical miles off the Bahamian coast in a joint effort to locate the El Faro crew.

UPDATE: The Associated Press is reporting that late Saturday, Nov. 17, divers found the body of one of two men missing from an oil platform that caught fire Friday morning, Nov. 16.

The Coast Guard suspended the search for two missing platform crew members Saturday, Nov. 17, at approximately 5:25 p.m.

Coast Guard crews searched a 1,400 square-mile area of the Gulf of Mexico for more than 32 hours in an effort to locate the two missing crew members following a platform explosion approximately 20 miles southeast of Grand Isle, La.
