During a not-so-happy hour at a Beaumont bar, a local man’s truck was stolen from the parking lot while he was inside.

Police say, as is the case with many car thefts and other varying crime in the city, it could be drug-related since car thieves and other drug users are prone to trading vehicles for drugs, a practice so common it has become known in some circles as “a rock for a ride.”

Tuesday, July 12, at about 7:45 p.m., Beaumont officers on I-10 near mile marker 838 stopped a white 2015 Jeep Latitude with Florida plates for a traffic violation, Officer Carol Riley said in a release. A K-9 officer and his partner Sugar assisted with the stop.

A small, user amount of suspected powder cocaine and methamphetamine were located inside the vehicle. A further search of the vehicle revealed that three kilos of suspected powder cocaine were hidden inside the front driver and passenger doors.

After discovering kilos of cocaine and bundles of marijuana along the shoreline at the beach, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office warned people celebrating the July 4 holiday on the waterfront to call law enforcement if they see any of the drugs and to beware of dangerous toxins possibly seeping from the potentially perilous packages.

State District Judge Larry Gist of the Drug Impact Court of Jefferson County accepted a jury verdict and sentenced John Toran, 40, to 25 years in prison on May 22, announced Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham.

Information presented in court indicates that on April 5, 2016, Beaumont Police Officers R. Dommert and C. Wier were conducting a routine traffic stop in Beaumont. John Toran, the defendant, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Pursuant to a consensual search of the vehicle, the officers discovered 34 grams of concealed cocaine.

On Jan. 27, at about 1:15 p.m., Beaumont Police Department detectives with the narcotics unit executed a search and arrest warrant at a residence in the 3800 block of West Lynwood, BPD PIO Haley Morrow reported.

Police in Beaumont arrested a Louisiana man and seized approximately 395 grams of dangerous narcotics during a traffic stop inthe 5400 block of Walden Road on Jan. 10, Beaumont Police Department (BPD) Officer Haley Morrow reports.

Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7:10 am, Officers of the Beaumont Police Department, Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on IH-10 Eastbound, near mile marker 839.

Investigation revealed that approximately 4 kilos of cocaine were concealed inside the vehicle.

Hugo Garcia, a 27-year-old Houston man, and Emily Villareal, a 20-year-old Houston woman, were both placed under arrest and taken into federal custody.

Deputies with the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force discovered approximately 3 kilos (6.6. pounds) of cocaine during a traffic stop Oct. 24, reports the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Friday, Aug. 5, at 7:45 a.m., Beaumont narcotics detectives executed a narcotics search and arrest warrant at an apartment in the 2100 block of McFaddin St. SWAT made entry into the house and secured three residents inside. Once the scene was secured, a search of the residence revealed powder cocaine, a small amount of marijuana, two handguns, and over $2,000 cash.

Port Arthur resident Vanessa Ann Davis, 54, was indicted by the Jefferson County Grand Jury for intoxication manslaughter and two charges of aggravated assault on July 20, reports the Jefferson County District Attorney's office. The indictments stem from the fatal motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death of Pamela Fields, 51, also a resident of Port Arthur, and the injuries caused to the other passengers in Davis’ vehicle.
