One man is dead and another seriously injured following a car crash July 29. Police say one of the drivers, a convicted felon, was intoxicated and in possession of a firearm and drugs at the time of the accident.

A man is dead following a crane accident near Motiva Port Arthur Refinery that occurred Thursday, July 13.

Port Arthur Police Department reports that it responded to an accident at MLK and Terminal road near the Motiva plant at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday to find that a crane had fallen on an individual. PAPD reports that Acadian Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the man to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the shooting death of a 46-year-old Vidor man after a family dispute allegedly erupted in violence on July 4, reports Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll. 

According to Carroll, police dispatch received a call at 8:17 p.m. that night in reference to a shooting in the 100 block of Carla Street in Vidor. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, identified by police as Gregory Paul Goldsmith, being treated by medics from Acadian Ambulance Service. The medics were unable to revive Goldsmith and declared him deceased at the scene.

Dennis Reeves

A temporary restraining order has been granted to the family of Dennis Reeves, the Kirbyville High School principal found dead of a gunshot wound on the school’s campus May 23 with his foot on the brake pedal of his still running truck. Reeves’ family is seeking the court’s intervention to prevent the destruction of evidence they allege could shed light on what transpired in the time leading up to the death, according to court documents.

On Sunday June 4, around 6:30 a.m., an inmate in the medical infirmary of the Jefferson County Correctional Facility reported that his bunkmate, a 70 year old white male, was unresponsive. Jail staff immediately began CPR and notified EMS.  They continued the CPR until EMS arrived and took over.

An immate at the Jefferson County Jail died in custody, reports Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Captain Crystal Holmes, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine what caused the 70-year-old man's death. 

In a news release, Capt. Holmes indicated that an inmate in the medical infirmary reported that his bunk mate was unresponsive at about 6:30 a.m. June 4. Jail staff immediately began CPR and notified EMS. They continued CPR until EMS arrived and took over. The inmate was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Detective Robert Ener, a 29-year veteran of the Beaumont Police Department who had been battling cancer, passed away over the weekend on May 28 at age 59, reports the department. 

In a statement, BPD remembered the long-time officer and brother in blue, and thanked the community for reaching out to help with medical expenses during a benefit held for Ener earlier this year.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the death of a toddler who drowned after falling into a small pond at a Vidor residence yesterday evening, May 5.

Police in Orange are investigating an apparent suicide at Executive Inn that occurred April, reports the Officer Leslie Lovelace.

According to a police report from the Orange Police Department (OPD), Officer Lovelace responded to a call from the hotel regarding a gunshot victim in one of the rooms. Upon arrival, the officer discovered a white female lying on the bed with a head wound. A second white female was holding pressure to wound in an apparent attempt to stem the bleeding. Police report the victim died from her injuries.
