When the Press Club of Southeast Texas opens entries for the best investigative reports, eligible candidates from Southeast Texas’ daily newspapers, non-daily newspapers and magazines vie for the coveted honor of earning top distinction. At a ceremony held Friday, June 8, The Examiner secured both the first and second place awards in the highly competitive category.

The Examiner received multiple honors at the 25th annual Press Club of Southeast Texas Excellence in Media Awards, held Friday, June 10, at the MCM Eleganté Hotel and Conference Center in Beaumont.

In addition to winning first place in Overall Excellence and best Website News, Examiner staff won individual honors across several categories.

One certainly would not want their life’s deeds or career judged entirely on what was found on the Internet. Yet, it is hard to imagine how an ex-assistant district attorney for Jefferson County could spend 24 years on the public payroll and have only one story online that mentions his name.
