You have to have heart … The American Heart Association hosted its annual Go Red for Women Luncheon recently at the Beaumont Event Centre. The luncheon raises funds for cardiovascular disease and stroke research, awareness and education. This year’s honoree was Pamela St. Amand of Legacy Community Health. Jill Grounds of Cardiac Consultants was the keynote speaker and spoke on the risks of cardiovascular disease for women.

Applause, applause … for our fabulous Betty Greenberg! The amazing lady who chaired and orchestrated so many fundraisers in this wonderful city was honored Friday evening, March 23, at the Betty Greenberg Performing Arts Center on her 90th b-day. Friends and family members enjoyed delightful bites, cocktails and conversation catch-up at the beginning of the evening.

Honoring “servant leaders,” the 15th annual Harvest of Hope at the MCM Eleganté recognized two outstanding Catholic leaders who are celebrating their 50th anniversaries of religious life, Monsignor Jeremiah McGrath — or Father Jerry –  pastor of Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica, and Sister Ester Dunegan, chancellor for the Diocese of Beaumont. The evening started with a cocktail party with music provided by harpist Jane Clark. The emcee for the evening was Monsignor Michael Jamail, vicar general for the Diocese of Beaumont.

Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas Foundation’s annual gala La Soirée will be held Jan. 27 at the Beaumont Civic Center. Guests who appreciate the nostalgia of days past will especially enjoy this year’s theme — A Roaring La Soirée.

Music from the ‘20s and fantastic food from Bando’s will keep the party going.

In a recording career that spans almost three decades and 23 albums, Kenny G has solidified his reputation as the premier saxophonist in contemporary jazz.

Spindletop Gusher producing water

Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum, on the Lamar University campus, will mark the 117th anniversary of the Lucas Gusher at Spindletop with a day packed with re-enactments, activities, craft demonstrations and entertainment.

“Every year the volunteers and museum staff work hard to bring new things to this annual event along with making it fun,” said museum director Troy Gray. “Discussions usually center on how to bring visitors back in time to 1901.”

Bringing Back the Memories Car Show is on Dec 2nd at City Hall

The Beaumont City Hall parking lot will be filled with some smooth rides this weekend as the Bringing Back the Memories Car Show will be held there Saturday, Dec. 2, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and will also feature games and amusements for kids. Come see some great cars with officers from the Beaumont Police Department. All proceeds will benefit the BPD’s Cops & Kids Program, which is designed around the idea of teaching children that law enforcement officers are friends and protectors.
