Chad Cooper, sports/entertainment editor, won first place in the National Newspaper Association Awards with The Examiner’s Southeast Texas High School Football magazine for Best Special News, Sports or Feature Section or Edition in competition with 1,605 entries.

Soon to be in its 17th edition, the Southeast Texas High School Football Guide is a 56-page, full color magazine that covers every high school, both big and small, in Southeast Texas by promoting the passion, the atmosphere, the rivalries, and the community support for the love of Friday night lights.

When the Press Club of Southeast Texas opens entries for the best investigative reports, eligible candidates from Southeast Texas’ daily newspapers, non-daily newspapers and magazines vie for the coveted honor of earning top distinction. At a ceremony held Friday, June 8, The Examiner secured both the first and second place awards in the highly competitive category.

The Examiner received multiple honors at the 25th annual Press Club of Southeast Texas Excellence in Media Awards, held Friday, June 10, at the MCM Eleganté Hotel and Conference Center in Beaumont.

In addition to winning first place in Overall Excellence and best Website News, Examiner staff won individual honors across several categories.
