Qatar Petroleum announced Tuesday, April 25 that Golden Pass Products (GPP) has received authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy to export LNG to Non-Free Trade Agreement countries. NFTA Countries are countries that do not have a free-trade agreement with the U.S.

“Golden Pass Products is pleased to have achieved this important regulatory milestone as we continue to work to develop the export opportunity,” said company spokesperson Clark Vega.

The Beaumont Public Schools Foundation (BPSF) distributed nearly $13,000 in grant items to students and staff of the Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) for innovative classroom projects during the 2016 Fall Grant Caravan on Dec. 2. The foundation and friends visited nine campuses and the BISD Police Department, awarding 12 grants to 11 staff and a group of five students.

ExxonMobil announced plans Tuesday, July 26, to increase production of ultra-low sulfur fuels at its Beaumont refinery by approximately 40,000 barrels per day, further strengthening its integrated downstream portfolio while meeting environmental standards.

 “This will represent the largest capital investment at our Beaumont refinery in more than a decade,” said Fernando Salazar, manager of the Beaumont refinery, of the $450 million investment by ExxonMobil.

The Joint Terrorism Task Force associated with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas in Beaumont has made an arrest in the bomb threat made at ExxonMobil on Wednesday, June 15.

A 23-year-old Beaumont, Texas man has been arrested for federal violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.

The ExxonMobil Downtown refinery issued a shelter-in-place Wednesday, June 15,  after the refinery received a bomb threat.

"ExxonMobil received a bomb threat shorty before 11 a.m.," said Patrick Trahan, Manager, Public and Government Affairs for ExxonMobil. "We contacted the authorities."

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded along with the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Dishman Elementary School Teacher Wanda Brooks was named the 2016-2017 BISD Elementary Division Teacher of the Year, and Vincent Middle School Teacher Melissa Chapman was named the 2016-2017 BISD Secondary Division Teacher of the Year.

ExxonMobil Beaumont Refinery experienced an unplanned shutdown of one of its sulfur units Wednesday morning around 11 a.m., Feb. 10, and as a precautionary measure enacted a shelter-in-place order within the complex.

A similar move was made at nearby Jefferson County Courthouse, according to Greg Fountain, Emergency Management coordinator for Jefferson County.

Fire and smoke billowing into downtown Beaumont’s dreary dark afternoon sky about 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Jan. 21, caused citizen alarm and Lamar University to suspend classes. The emissions were generated from the ExxonMobil Beaumont Complex, according to company Public and Government Affairs Manager Lee Dula.
