A fatal accident March 29 involving a church bus on Highway 83 near Garner State Park killed 13.

The bus was carrying senior adults returning home from a three-day retreat at Alto Frio Baptist Encampment, according to the First Baptist Church of New Braunfels.

"It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that 13 of the 14 passengers in today’s bus accident were called home to Jesus," the church posted on its Facebook page on March 29 at 10:40 p.m. "The survivor is in serious but stable condition.


Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 12:29 p.m., Beaumont Police officers responded to the 4400 block of Magnolia Street in reference to a major vehicle crash, BPD Officer Haley Morrow reported.

There were two vehicles involved in the crash, a red Chevy Camaro and a green Cadillac Deville. The driver of the green Cadillac Deville died as a result of her injuries; she is identified as Linda Ramsey, a 75-year-old Beaumont woman.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.


The Texas Department of Public Safety reports a one vehicle rollover crash on FM 1005 in Jasper County Tuesday, Oct. 25 around 7:00p.m. The crash occurred approximately a half mile north of FM 252.

A 1998 Ford pickup truck was traveling westbound on FM 1005. For an unknown reason, the driver left the roadway. The vehicle rolled over several times before coming to rest in the ditch.

The driver of the Ford, 58-year-old Marshall Glenn Cooper of Magnolia Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mike Smith. Cooper was the only occupant in the vehicle.


Friday, Oct. 21, at 6:15 AM, Beaumont Police responded to the 7500 block of College Street in reference to a major crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.

Investigation revealed that the bicyclist was traveling west bound in the left inside west bound travel lane (closest to the center turning lane) of College Street. The bicyclist did not have an illuminated headlight or red reflector on the rear of the bicycle.


At approximately 2:30p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a two vehicle crash on US 69 in Hardin County. The crash occurred approximately one mile south of Highway 327.

A 2004 Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound on US 69. A 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on US 69. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford crossed the center dividing line and struck the Chevrolet pickup truck head-on.


Monday, Oct. 17, at 11:46 p.m., officers responded in reference to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on MLK northbound at Elgie .

The caller stated the victim was not responding. Officers learned a female pedestrian was attempting to cross the road in the dark and was struck by a passing vehicle.

Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at 12:45 a.m., officers responded to a major crash on College Street at Reynolds Road. Upon arrival, officers learned 45-year-old Beaumont man Earl Timothy Sigee was driving a brown Cadillac SD and attempted to make an unsafe turn from College Street to Reynolds Road.


Saturday, Oct. 1 about 4 p.m., several 911 calls came into the Port Arthur Police Department reporting an accident with injuries at Gulfway Drive and San Antonio Avenue.

Officers responding to the scene discovered a GMC pickup that collided with a Toyota, trapping four people inside.

PAPD freed three injured people from the Toyota, but the other passenger was deceased. Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam identified the deceased as Bridgette Miles-Davis, 57, of Port Arthur.


Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 12:14 p.m., the Port Arthur police and fire departments received a 911 call reporting a major accident at 39th Street and Memorial Boulevard.

Officers responding to the scene “found one vehicle engulfed in flames,” a PAPD release said. After the fire was extinguished, responders discovered one occupant inside the charred vehicle.


The 21-year-old passenger of a truck traveling down Major Drive in Beaumont late Saturday morning shot himself accidentally while handling a revolver and died as a result, reports the Beaumont Police Department.
