FEMA Hazard Mitigation specialists will be at the Nederland Heritage Festival on Saturday, March 17, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to meet with those affected by the hurricane. The festival will be held at 1523 Boston Ave., Nederland, TX 77627. Mitigation specialists will answer questions and offer tips and techniques to build hazard resistant homes.

As Texans repair or rebuild their homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey and subsequent flooding, FEMA and home-improvement stores in Harris, Nueces and Orange counties are teaming up to provide free information, tips and literature on making homes stronger and safer, FEMA officials said in a release.

Eligible Hurricane Harvey survivors receiving Transitional Shelter Assistance (TSA) may receive an extension to stay temporarily in hotels while they look for an alternative place to live. The new extension is through March 12, FEMA announced Jan. 12.

Beaumont's FEMA disaster recovery center (DRC) is relocating for the New Year, FEMA officials announced Jan. 29.

FEMA announced Nov. 14 that the federal mobile disaster recovery center (DRC) in Bevil Oaks will be closing permanently on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

One DRC in Houston will be closing the same day.

Every home in Rose City except two sustained damage during the catastrophic flooding that Hurricane Harvey brought to Southeast Texas, and, while other cities begin the rebuilding process, the small town is still literally trying to pick up the pieces and sift through the rubble they once called home.

Mayor Bonnie Stephenson said her city and its residents are in dire need of assistance.

“The city was devastated,” Stephenson said, “but, we’re coming back. These people have lost everything, and they need help.”

FEMA spokesperson Ken Higginbotham said that starting Wednesday, Sept. 13, the federal agency is collaborating with multiple local, state and federal agencies to offer what is essentially a “one-stop stop” for Harvey victims seeking assistance in recovery. From 7 a.m. through 7 p.m., seven days a week, the first FEMA/state Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) for the Golden Triangle will set up camp at the Goodwill located at 2871 Stagg Drive in Beaumont.

Transitional Shelter Assistance (TSA) benefits, which provide short-term lodging assistance for evacuees who are impacted by a declared disaster, are available to Jefferson, Hardin, and Orange county residents whose homes were damaged by Tropical Storm/Hurricane Harvey. TSA benefits, sponsored by FEMA, are not a guarantee of hotel room availability, though, FEMA media liaison Ken Higginbotham told The Examiner.
