Police in Jasper arrested a 26-year-old man for first-degree felony arson June 4 after they say he intentionally set fire to the residence he shared with his grandmother, who, at the time of this report, remained in critical condition at UTMB Galveston due to smoke inhalation.

Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Friday, May 4, that a Jefferson County jury found Sean Lavergne, 30, of Beaumont guilty of murder in the September 12, 2015, death of Reggie Jokodolo. The trial was conducted in the 252nd District Court.

Crews were working April 23 to clean up an oil spill following a crane accident that injured one person, reports the Port Arthur Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a report of a crane that had turned over on S. First Avenue in Sabine Pass. On arrival, crews found a subject complaining of back pain on a boat. They removed him from the boat and transported him to a hospital for medical treatment of his injuries, which were not life-threatening according to PAFD.

A tragic fire in Beaumont claimed a local person's life on Easter Sunday, reports Beaumont Fire-Rescue.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville (LCM) High School campus has been closed to teachers and staff on Monday, March 19, following an electrical fire on the campus, reports the school district. 

According to the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District (LCMCISD), a small fire on the exterior of the school broke out Sunday evening causing the closure. All other campuses in the district remain open, and high school students enrolled at Lamar State College-Orange (LSC-O) will still have class.

Beaumont Fire-Rescue responded to a two-alarm fire on Park Street early in the New year, according to Capt. Jimmy Blanchard.

An unused bicycle and heater repair shop that had been closed for several years at 2380 Park St. caught fire Jan. 2, causing damage to the houses on either side of the shop, Capt. Brad Penisson said.

The shop had been closed for several years since the owner passed away and the owner's son was maintaining the property, according to Penisson.

ExxonMobil put out an early morning fire at its Beaumont refinery crude unit Tuesday, Nov. 28. The fire was reported around 6 a.m. on the south side of the refinery.

"Onsite responders quickly extinguished the fire, and there were no injuries," said Ashley Alemayehu, Beaumont Area Public and Government Affairs Manager for ExxonMobil Corporation.

Initial air quality monitoring shows no off-site impact, Alemayehu said.

Police didn’t find a burglar when they responded to a burglar alarm at Popeyes restaurant on Phelan Boulevard on Monday, Nov. 27, at 4:15 a.m., but they did find a fire, Beaumont Fire-Rescue Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a release.

Beaumont Police patrol officers notified the fire department, and the fire crews arrived within minutes, according to Blanchard.

“The fire crews made quick work of a fire in the kitchen of the restaurant,” Blanchard said. “There were no injuries.”

The business will be closed until repairs can be made.
