Fireworks sales started blazing across the country starting Memorial Day weekend, running through the Fourth of July. As retailers begin their promotions, the American Academy of Ophthalmology is shining a light on this explosive fact: the number of eye injuries caused by fireworks has more than doubled in recent years.

The Ruxpins

The Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting its annual “Celebrate Independence Day” on Monday, July 4, beginning at 7 p.m. with a live concert from the local Americana rock act The Ruxpins at the Riverfront Pavilion.

At 9 p.m. an unbelievable fireworks show will light up the Orange sky. The event is free and there will be plenty of kids events, snow cones, drinks and more. No pets are allowed.

Beaumont firefighters battled a blaze at the former location of Koch's Flower Shop in the 2200 block of Avenue C on Jan. 1, Beaumont Fire and Rescue reports.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire at 2270 Avenue C where they found the vacant building heavily involved by fire. It took approximately an hour to get the fire under control, Fire/Rescue stated. The building was completely destroyed, but there were no injuries.
