The Lamar University football team made it consecutive wins on the season by knocking off Abilene Christian, 38-10, on Oct. 8 at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene. The Cardinals (2-3, 2-1 Southland Conference) continue their dominance over ACU in Abilene improving, to 7-2 all-time on the road in the series.

When the Lamar Cardinals traveled an hour west on Interstate 10 on Sept. 10 to face FBS nationally ranked No. 6 Houston, they left their offense at home as the Cards lost for the second straight week, this time in a 42-0 shutout.

Squandering a 14-3 halftime lead in the season opener at home Sept. 3 against FCS No. 16 Coastal Carolina, the Lamar Cardinals were outscored 35-0 in the second half to lose 38-14.

The Lamar Cardinals opened football camp Aug. 4 and saw 44 lettermen return from last season including preseason senior All-Americans Kade Harrington (running back) and Bret Treadway (offensive lineman), to go along with a signing class that ranked fourth nationally at the FCS level this past February.

Seniors Kade Harrington (running back) and Bret Treadway (offensive line), and sophomore Rodney Randle (return specialist) garnered first-team recognition, while senior Brendan Langley (defensive back) was named to the second team.

Football championships head back to Arlington

All University Interscholastic League (UIL) football state championship games will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the next two years, including the 11-man and six-man football championship games. 

The new schedule places all 12 games in a four-day span, from Dec. 14-17.

West Orange-Stark senior football player Steven Tims will continue his education and play football for Blinn College in Brenham. Tims was named the Class 4A state championship game defensive MVP.
