Landon James "Lan Lan" Slaughter

Wednesday, July 4, at 9:45 p.m., Beaumont police responded to the intersection of Franklin and Avenue E in reference to a major traffic crash. There were several independent witnesses to the crash and preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a green Buick was southbound on Avenue E and disregarded the stop sign at the intersection with Franklin. A Nissan SUV traveling west on Franklin carrying five occupants was struck by the Buick. As a result of the crash, Landon Slaughter died from his injuries. Landon would have been 4 years old next week.

A tanker truck leaking hazardous material resulted in the closure of several major streets in downtown Beaumont about noon Wednesday, July 29.
