The Little Caesar's Pizza place in Orange called police Sept. 23 after receiving counterfeit currency as payment for a purchase, reports Officer David Vaughn. 

According to a police report written by Vaughn, the officer responded to 2421 16th St. in Orange in reference to the discovery of the fake money. The manager told the officer that a customer had come in and paid with a counterfeit $50 bill. The customer service representative took the bill and provided change to the customer, who then left with food and some of the store's real cash.

Beaumont police arrested two suspects who allegedly tried to cash a forged check at Sam's Package Store, and subsequently found all the materials necessary for the couple to continue the con inside their vehicle.

A 75-year-old man who pleaded guilty to defrauding more than 500 people during his time as a fugitive from justice was sentenced May 4 to 40 years in prison for wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, the statutory maximum and his second federal sentence related to some of the scammer's incessant schemes. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) Deputies investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle arrested three suspects on fraud/identity theft charges after discovering what appeared to be mail stolen from Beaumont, Lumberton and Silsbee, along with a gun and other apparently stolen items from area burglaries, reports Capt. Crystal Holmes.

Former Beaumont ISD electrical contractor Calvin Walker will be required to face state prosecution alleging he defrauded the school district and the city of Port Arthur, according to a ruling by the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS), as the court’s justices this week refused to entertain pleadings by Walker and his legal counsel that the cases pending against the defendant should be quashed before ever being heard by a jury of his peers. Walker is set to appear before Jefferson County Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens on June 5.
