A statement released Oct. 11 from the Coast Guard in Galveston stated that they have now suspended the search for a person last seen in the water near Seawolf Park.

Search crews covered more than 259 square miles for approximately 23 hours.

The Coast Guard issued a statement that they are searching for a person in the water near Seawolf Park in Galveston.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 10, Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report of a man overboard the ferry John W. Johnson. The man was reported to be a Hispanic male in his early 30's wearing a green shirt and blue jeans.

Luis Fernendo Argueta, a 19-year-old male, died from gunshots fired by a Galveston police officer.

According to a press release by Galveston County Sherriff’s Office, the morning of Monday, June 25, at approximately 3 a.m., the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office received a request from Galveston Police Department to assist in the investigation of an Officer involved shooting at the 5300 block of Ave. L.

A 75-year-old man who pleaded guilty to defrauding more than 500 people during his time as a fugitive from justice was sentenced May 4 to 40 years in prison for wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, the statutory maximum and his second federal sentence related to some of the scammer's incessant schemes. Harris Dempsey aka “Butch” Ballow, formerly of formerly of Galveston County, pleaded guilty to the crimes Feb.

On Monday, Feb. 5, at about 3:15 a.m., the Galveston Police Department received a 911 call that a shooting had just occurred in the 1800 block of Strand Street and that one person had been shot, the department said in a release.
