July 27, 2015, the Boy Scouts of America announced that its National Executive Board had voted to end its ban on openly gay troop leaders.

Chartered organizations will continue to select their adult leaders, however, and religious chartered organizations may continue to use religious beliefs as criteria for selecting adult leaders, including matters of sexuality, Boy Scouts of America said in a press release.

In reaction to a petition campaign asking him to speak out against the Boy Scouts of America’s current ban on gay scouts and gay scout leaders, Randall Stephenson, CEO of AT&T and an executive board member with the Boy Scouts, has announced that he not only supports an end to the ban -- but will also commit to ending it.
