The Gift of Life is hosting its final Men’s Health Month Screening site for the month of June in Port Arthur on Saturday, June 24 from 9 a.m. – Noon at the Carl A. Parker Multipurpose Center (1800 Lakeshore Dr.).

"We’re really excited because we’re actually bringing in a Port Arthur native and Super Bowl Champion Joe Washington, Jr. to meet and greet our clients," said Holli Peterson, spokesperson for the Gift of Life.

"Right now, we’re having several people calling and asking us if we’re cancelling our screening due to weather. At this time, we have no plans to cancel."

One of the most popular and well-attended nonprofit events in Southeast Texas is coming in the fall, and Gift of Life started early, working to get the community fired up for it by hosting a pep rally luncheon Thursday, June 8, at Broussard’s Centré in Beaumont.

Cancer-fighting cheerleaders engaged the crowd, spelling out “victory” over the deadly disease, which Gift of Life has been helping Southeast Texas battle since 1994.

Tri-Con Inc. (dba Exxpress Mart stores) and owners Imad and Elias Sarkis recently presented a contribution of $25,000 to the Gift of Life for its free healthcare services for medically underserved men and women in Southeast Texas.
