Topgolf has taken over the game of golf and has been the premier entertainment and event venue throughout North America and Europe. And now thanks to Beaumont native Austin Williams, Southeast Texas residents and visitors seeking entertainment will soon be able to access two new interactive golf experiences at 5 Under Golf Center, formerly Games People Play Golf Center.

Coming soon to 5945 College St. in Beaumont will be the Toptracer Range by Topgolf and Topgolf Swing Suite.

Season tickets for the upcoming 2018 season are on sale through the LU Ticket Office. Renewals have been sent out, and previous year season-ticket holders have until Friday, May 4, to renew their seats.

For the third consecutive season, Lamar University senior Michael Feucht has been named the Southland Conference Tennis Male Student-Athlete of the Year, while senior Katya Lapayeva earned the Southland Conference Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

Feucht highlights a 2017 Academic All-Southland Conference team that features four Cardinals, including three first-team selections.

For the second consecutive season, the Lamar men’s tennis team is heading to the first round of the NCAA Championship after winning the Southland Conference Tournament.

Lamar (17-7) will travel to Waco on Friday, May 12, to play No. 7 seed Baylor (21-7) in the opening round at 1 p.m. at Hurd Tennis Center.

The Lamar Cardinals softball team (22-21) will host nationally ranked Baylor on Tuesday, April 25, for one non-conference game beginning at 4 p.m.

The Bears (35-7), ranked No. 13, defeated the Cardinals 5-3 back on Feb. 18 during their tournament in Waco. To purchase tickets, view lamarcardinals.com or call (409) 880-1715.

Before the Cards square off with the Bears, they have a date with Southland Conference first-place McNeese (30-14, 16-2) in Lake Charles for three games beginning Friday, April 21, at 6 p.m. followed by a double-header Saturday at 4 p.m.

Fans of Lamar University athletics not only have several opportunities to cheer on their favorite teams on Saturday, April 15, but also have the chance save lives by helping to delete blood cancer.

As part of the Students vs. Blood Cancer national campaign, stations will be set up at Provost Umphrey Stadium, Vincent-Beck Stadium and the LU Softball Complex to allow Lamar fans to register to be a life-saving match to a blood cancer patient in need. The process takes just a few minutes, as fans would have their cheek swabbed to determine if they are a potential match.

Redshirt senior Kiandra Bowers will return for a fifth season with LU.

Junior forward Colton Weisbrod was chosen as a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ (NABC) All-District team. The Nederland native is the first Cardinal chosen for the group since Kenny Dawkins and Jay Brown were picked nine years ago.

The second-team honor comes following a season where Weisbrod helped the Lamar to 19 wins in the regular season and a postseason berth, both for the first time since 2012.

The 2017 baseball season begins Friday, Feb. 17, when the Lamar Cardinals host the Cardinal Classic tournament at Vincent-Beck Stadium. LU will open with University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin on Friday at 6 p.m. They will play Illinois on Saturday at 4 p.m. then return Sunday to host the Illini at 10 a.m.

Reigning Hitter of the Year Reid Russell paved the way with five Cardinals voted to the Preseason All-Southland Conference teams.

Lamar University head football coach Ray Woodard will not return for the 2017 season, Director of Athletics Jason Henderson announced Nov. 21.

“We would like to thank Coach Woodard for all that he has done for the Lamar University football program,” said Henderson. “It still remains our goal to compete for championships and to put our student-athletes in a position to be successful on the field and in the classroom.”
